Caroline F. Butson, Artist

Caroline Butson is a self-taught, multi-disciplined artist who has worked out of her own studio since 1994.

Caroline’s paintings reflect her inner journey as well as her adventures across Canada and the U.S.A. to Arizona, Mexico and Panama. Her love of the local Muskoka landscape is evident by relocating her home base from Belfountain to Huntsville in 2016.

Working primarily in oil, Caroline finds the slow curing process akin to birthing, because the final colours’ luminosity deepens when the oil paint dries. The centuries-old medium has its origins in Mother Earth which adds a living element to the original painting. Caroline’s oil paintings have been purchased by private and corporate collectors internationally.

Caroline personally experienced the healing power of the Arts, successfully overcoming a form of autism by way of expressing herself through the other languages of painting, singing, drumming and dance. Caroline's gift of painting is her passion and she blends elements of abstract and colour, movement and form, in a unique style that expresses her deep spiritual nature.

"I have been sharing my knowledge of the creative arts, teaching children in the schools since 1988 and teaching adults at my studio since 1994. I am realizing a long time dream in developing the Tree of Life Centre for Creativity where children and adults of all ages and abilities can come to discover hidden talents, explore self-expression and nurture their creativity. This unique teaching program is based upon the ancient symbol of the native american Medicine Wheel. It is an important tool to develop inner balance and to help awaken our own artist within."
